Our Mission

It’s our history. Preserve it.

Founded in 1916, the Bedford Historical Society preserves and promotes the history of Bedford, New York, by increasing awareness, understanding and appreciation of the founding and growth of Bedford.

The Bedford Historical Society

  • Preserves, strengthens and fosters interest in the history of the town of Bedford
  • Identifies, documents and preserves places and buildings of historical and antiquarian interest in Town
  • Erects, maintains and improves historical monuments, buildings, and natural landscapes to enhance the historic quality of the community
  • Pursues, procures and preserves objects of historical interest that relate to the natural, literary, artistic and civil history of the Town of Bedford
  • Establishes, maintains, improves and interprets collections of such objects and artifacts for public benefit through exhibits, educational and outreach programs, and community events and initiatives
  • Works in partnership with Town Boards to further the welfare and preservation of the historic character of the community
